In this blog i will be writing about how much promotion costs physically and digitally. Now physical promotion would be for example advertisement in a newspaper, magazine or flyer. Where as digital promotion would be on the internet through social media and emailing lists. Here is a blog i wrote about the differences between them both:
I have done my research and have found it quite interesting promoting physically. I have found out that to advertise and promote yourself in a newspaper or a magazine varies with each one. But the average standard prices would depend on how popular the newspaper/magazine is, how big you want the promotion (full page, small box etc.). But the price roughly would be around £200 to even £5000 depending on the company and the advertisement. But also adverts in the papers are on contracts so the amount you pay will only get you advertised in their newspapers/magazines for so long. But of course this is only rough, some bigger companies can charge way more. But for a musician who is wanting to advertise their music or band here is an example. Kerrang magazine charge £2999 for a full page, £1600 for 1/2 page and £949 for 1/4 page (1). But this is a pretty big music company so if a musician wanted to advertise for a cheaper price look to advertise in a local newspaper.
Digital marketing also has a very broad price range depending on what kind of promotion and what platform it is promoted on. For a musician the most common places of promotion are on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube. Most aspiring musicians i’ve seen promoting their page or music have only payed for promotion on a single post. On Facebook You can promote on as little a $5 and that gets you around 5-30 clicks(2). But of course there are different types of promotion on Facebook and the cost will vary depending on how long its promoted for, how big the promotion is (whether its a picture, video, status etc). Twitter and Instagram are around the same price roughly depending on the type of promotion. The most used promotion by musicians i’ve seen is when a musician promotes a new song or an upcoming gig. Because they’ve paid the £5-£15 roughly on promoting their artists page status it appears on a number of peoples news feeds right at the top. This can be a useful way of getting people to see your posts for a musician.
Overall i think that the best way to promote regarding money is promoting digitally because it can be a lot cheaper this was but also you can promote without money too using tagging and other social media techniques.
