My fee I think will be around £100 + travel. But factors can drop the price. It will depend on the style of music whether the price will be lowered. For example if I was being paid to play bass for a funk gig, rock gig or a jazz gig. I would lower the cost because it is more enjoyable to play and I would be more comfortable in playing these genres. But for genres like progressive rock (prog) with difficult time signatures to play over, I would keep the original price. Although I love prog, I find it difficult to learn In short spaces of time. A musicians fee can’t be too high because people looking for a musician to play on a gig, would rather choose a musician who is cheaper and is as good as the musician who is more expensive for the gig. But you can’t be too cheap because the musician will lose out on money.
You can record music cheap on computers nowadays. It doesn’t cost a lot to get good software for a computer and record your own music at a good quality. Now more and more people are creating their own music in their own homes. Also websites such as soundcloud and band camp have made it easier for musicians too, this can get people’s songs they’ve wrote available for more people to discover.
But now that we have more technology to create and edit music to high standards in your own home. I think talent doesn’t matter as much as before, due to the technology. This is because technology can be used to edit the music and change, cut and add more effects to music. Where as before, people had to be more talented to be able to get noticed for their good songs.
